Admissions for September 2022

We are very sorry that it has not been possible again this year to welcome prospective parents and students to visit our school prior to the deadline for applications to be made to Warwickshire Admissions Service.

The following statement by the Headteacher is by way of explanation of the current situation and the gives the reasons behind the decision taken:

“Shipston High School had planned to run an open event for prospective parents in September where we would have been pleased to provide both an insight into the work of the school and an opportunity to attend the site and meet staff and students. Unfortunately, coronavirus infections prevented this from proceeding. It would have been irresponsible to place both members of the school and visitors at risk of further infections by proceeding with such a large event.

Mitigating the risk of coronavirus remains a priority. The risk remains very present, and taking sensible precautions is assisting the school in continuing to provide lessons for all year groups. However, secondary schools are continuing to feel the effects of the virus, with local schools reverting to periods of remote learning for some or all pupils in response to infection rates in recent weeks. Coronavirus affects both students and staff, and schools are managing the inevitable challenges of related absence. In this context, our priority remains the operation of the school and we are therefore minimising the number of visitors to the school site.

I appreciate your desire to visit the school and understand your request for an individual appointment.  However, the popularity of the school means that we cannot accommodate the high demand such appointments would attract and they remain, regrettably, unavailable. There are 120 year 7 places available for 2022 entry, and the number of completed applications is already high; year 7 has been consistently significantly oversubscribed in recent years.

I trust that you will be reassured to know that our current Year 7 students have made an excellent start and have settled impressively to their learning despite being unable to attend an open event in 2020.  Families can access some welcome information and videos through the ‘Thinking of joining Shipston High School’ section of the school website: September 2022 entry | Shipston High School.”

We appreciate this is not an ideal situation but would encourage parents to contact the school where we will do our best to answer any further queries and help in any way we can.
