The start of November saw the launch of a Reading Challenge for Years 7 and 8.

All students are being encouraged to read widely and the English department has produced an interesting and varied “Recommended Reads” sheet ranging from literacy heritage authors like Louisa May Alcott, Rudyard Kipling, C.S. Lewis and Arthur Ransome through to more modern authors such as Michael Morpurgo, Malorie Blackman and Phillip Pulman.

Tied in with this Challenge is the English Department Book Award, encouraging students to read 4 books for the Bronze award, 6 for the Silver and 9 for the Gold.

Students are encouraged to discuss what they are reading in class so they can share their thoughts, opinions and recommendations to their peers.

Parents and Carers are reminded that books make excellent Christmas gifts!
