Free School Meals

Eligibility for benefits related free school meals (FSM) from September 2026:

Families who receive the following are eligible for free school meals under the Targeted category;

    • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
    • Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
    • The guaranteed element of Pension Credit
    • Universal Credit – if you apply on or after 1 April 2018 your household income must be less than £7,400 a year (after tax and not including any benefits you get)

Families who receive the following are eligible for free school meals under the Expanded category;

  • Universal credit whose annual earnings are above £7,400

Young people who get paid these benefits directly, instead of through a parent or guardian, can also get free school meals.

If your child is eligible to receive free school meals you can apply through the Warwickshire website online here.  If you need help with your application or have any questions regarding applying for free school meals, please contact the Family Information Service by email freemeals@warwickshire.gov.uk or calling 0800 408 1558 (freephone).

Providing free school meals to families with no recourse to public funds (NRPF)

FSM eligibility has been permanently extended to children in households with no recourse to public funds (NRPF) and these children will fall into the Targeted category from September 2026.

If you are a family with NRPF, please fill out the application form below and email it to freemeals@warwickshire.gov.uk.

Application for free school meals – families with no recourse to public funds (NRPF)

 

Children who receive free school meals are entitled to a spend of £3.05 per day in the canteen. This will enable them to purchase a set meal with two items, or items from our grab and go section to that value. Should a student spend more than £3.05 in one day, the additional will be deducted from their Parentpay balance at the parent’s responsibility.
