Art Textiles is the newest of the suite of courses which the Design & Technology department offer at GCSE, with the first year11 class due to complete the GCSE course in June of this year.

Students from classes 9a/Te3 and 9a/Te2 of the Art Textiles module researched a range of images created by the Santiago, Chile – based artist Eduardo ‘Edo’ Morales.

Edo produced a ‘collection’ of portraits for an exhibition in 2011 – 2012 in which he used a variety of embroidery stitches and textiles techniques to create images of hims

elf and famous people such as David Bowie and Frida Kahlo.

Students have used these images as inspiration for their own works – some were even brave enough to create their images of themselves – however most chose to create images of famous people, from Kate Bush to Ed Sheeran.

This is the first time this module has been delivered in school, and the Design & Technology Department is very pleased with the results, with more to come from the remaining Year 9 groups in April and July.
